I had known about the Gilman Scholarship for a long time before I started the application process.

I started my Application on 10.2.2017 at around 12 in the afternoon and finished it by 2pm.

That is the last day to submit for the Sumer Early Application.

I did not write my essays during that time,
those took awhile...
I had written them during the summer
I was able to do so, because
The Gilman website tells you what their essays are about before the application opens.

One of the essays is about your Follow-on Service Project Proposal.

My Follow-on Service Project Proposal is this very website you are on right now.

For the application, you need to fill in and upload some stuff,

its been a couple of months since I filled in the application,

so I don’t remember much of what I did in comparison to the other scholarships I applied for.

However, I do have the checklist, which is on the right

The two advisers must be from your school,

but you don't have to do much for them.

I just had to call them and input their names as my adviser.

The Gilman Scholarship Application tends to know who the possible advisers you can pick from your school are, so you probably do not need any more information about them.

It was January 29th at 2pm,

when I was informed I received the Gillam Scholarship.

Once being told that you are excepted, you will have to fill in another application.

This application will take longer than the first application

(if you don’t count the time it takes to write an essay).

They ask for all sorts of information,

and it wants some stuff you might not have on hand—like a VOID check.

According to my email, you also need proof of U.S. citizenship, proof of acceptance into the study abroad program indicated in your application, proof of international insurance coverage, a photograph of yourself, and to submit an updated Official transcript

2.14.2018 was the date when my Second Gilman Application was checked off;

You are required to inform the Gilman advisors that you have safely arrived in your study abroad location within 72 hours of your arrival, and you gotta  tell them some other stuff as well.
