First Day of the KCP International Program

Today is the day I arrive in Japan!
I’m so excited, though not necessarily for this ten-hour flight.
My seat on the airplane came with a blanket and a pillow. I decided to take the blanked out and use the plastic wrap that was around it as a container for my stuffed animal I brought on the plane—so it doesn’t get dirty and that I can have easier access to the stuff inside of my backpack.
I also have two windows at my window seat
The nice thing about my flight is that we have Wi-Fi available on it, only messaging through Facebook is free, so I’m excited that I can check in on my family periodically throughout this flight.
Earlier, a flight attended handed out some free headphones and night masks along with a menu for today’s meals. Good news is, later today we will be getting ice cream.
Once we took off into the air and were stable, at about 12:30, the flight attendants came and passed out some chex mix and drinks .
They were normal. However, something surprising was about to begin….
We were fed lunch at 1:04 pm USA, and I picked the chicken.
According to the menu, this means I got “Seared Rosemary Chicken Breast Filet with Oven Roasted Red Skinned Potatoes, Broccoli Fortes and Petite Parisian Carrots,” which is quite the mouth full if I do say so myself.
Now I’ve been on quite a few of planes in my lifetime—growing up with relatives willing to pay for us to fly over and visit them—that I have eaten my fair share of airplane food.
So when ordered my food, I was blown away. This was a five-star airplane food meal—if I ordered it in a real restaurant, that would translate as a 3 star one.
I don’t really like salad, so I didn’t really eat any of it (though I did take a bite of everything.) The meal came with some cheese and crackers which was awesome, and a Brownie. The roll of bread was also quite good, but the biggest surprise was the meal.
First of all, the chicken tasted like chicken.
The carrots were cooked in a way you could barely taste it and wait for it,
The broccoli was good. It wasn’t amazing broccoli, but I am extremely impressed by their ability to make it—I’ve had worse tasting broccoli in stores and it always makes me sad. Broccoli is one of my favorite foods, so I would say this definably made the meal. The only real complaint I have about it was that it was a little two soft—I bet my younger sister would have loved it.
After eating I decided to try filling in my Customs papers, but it did not work out well. I will have to get some more on the other side and try again. Sadly, my pen spilled over my right hand, which made it that I was able to leave self-identifiable finger prints all over my stuff. My seat mate was extremely nice and offered my some wipes for my hands though so they didn’t stay that way for long.
I also started some of my Japanese papers, but not very many before I decided to eat some of my snack I bought. I ate some apples, cheese, and crackers. The grapes were not good grapes. I then got distracted with the screen in front of me, and I found something surprising.
I saw the animated movie Maquia: When the promised Flower Blooms.
It  had English subtitles, which was awesome because it was in Japanese.
The movie was a similar type to Wolf Children and The Boy and The Beast, though it was made by a different director.
After the movie ended, or rather right as it was ending, the flight attendants came and brought us Ice cream. The ice cream I got was “American Dream,” which is a pretty funny name for an ice cream if I do say so myself. Almost funnier since yesterday in America was 4th of July—even though it’s the 6th of July right now In Japan.
I then basically worked on my Japanese stuff until we started to land. Today was a cloudy and rainy day in Tokyo, which definitely has help battle off it’s summer time heat.
I talked with my seatmate in Japanese for a short bit as the plane was landing though it was not a very deep conversation by any accounts. Once we landed, we had to wait on the plane for another plane to move out of our gate. Once off, everyone started on their journey towards customs.
I then looked at a map and headed off toward the area where I was to be picked up for my Study Abroad Program—KCP. I was surprised by how easy it was to find the location.
Even though that line was the longest line I had to stand in for this trip, it was a fast one. By the time, I arrive at the baggage claim, my checked in bags were already out and circulating on the convertor belt—thus I then skedaddled out of their and into the airport. I saw a money exchange both near where I exited from, so I went and transferred $200 so that I would for sure have money for things I need for the next couple of day before I can find a better exchanger.
Our guide told everyone about some KCP stuff, and paid for one bag to be sent to the dorms. My bag is to arrive tomorrow by 7pm.

Once out of the station, we walked in the slight rain ten minutes in a mostly straight line to the dorm.

We then started out long subway journey to our dorm. I had one suitcase and my humongous backpack. Our first train ride was an hour and a half, and the next was around a half an hour. Once we arrived in Ikebukuro, we walked across the station, which is like the size the gate areas of an airport.
We the heaved our stuff to our rooms—I’m on the 3rd floor.
I have a nice view on the side by my door.

I then went to the closest stores in my area to get some basic food items for my room. I did not see any cookware, so I only got some drinks, yogurt, banana’s, two onigiri, and a sandwich at the first place, and then I walked further down the road and got a sponge, plastic cups, soap, and aluminum foil. I at the onigiri for dinner. I also bought some Pokémon crackers. Most of the shaped were not Pokémon—but here are the ones I recognized.

Once at the dorm we sat in the small common room, introduced ourselves, and awkwardly stole some stuff left by the past participants of the KCP program. I got a potato peeler, a bowl and a bowl that fits in it but with holes.
I then walked back to the apartment, did my room check and then
went to go to bed.
